Monday, August 30th, 2010

Consumer electronic devices have become a major part of our daily lives, whether we believe so or not. You do not have to be a tech freak to have most of your life somewhat dependent upon electronic devices. This dependency seems to grow much more and more with every new generation too. In case you run via a typical day, you may notice just how many consumer electronic devices which you use. There are also numerous new devices coming out all from the time to fill the void that was lacking a device to fill it.

The majority of us will begin our day towards the tune of an electric alarm clock. Then as we get ready in the morning, we will use a couple of other devices ranging from an electric shaver to an electrical iron. You may then heat up some breakfast in a microwave or toaster although the electric coffee maker brews a fresh pot. The point is that you’ve hardly started your day and the majority of the morning was spent using numerous electronics. With a normal work week the majority of us do not have time to manually do everything. Customer electronics mainly fulfill two duties. They either supply a useful function and/or they entertain us.

Most of the electronics that fulfill a function of every day life are similar towards the aforementioned items that you might use in the morning. Numerous others consist of things like refrigerators and washing machines. These appliances make everyday chores take a fraction of the time. Our electronic devices also make us much more comfortable with climate control for our homes and water heaters for our faucets. You don’t need to shop the latest items to become dependent upon electronic devices.

Besides consumer electronic devices which are utilized for everyday functions, there are ones that are purely for our interest and entertainment. MP3 player, portable gaming products and camcorders all supply for amusement daily. You will find also items like computers and cell phones that provide daily functions and amusement. Our customer electronic devices improve more every year to provide functionality and consumer satisfaction. More and more every year these items also fuse the gap between amusement and functionality which promises them a place in our shopping carts.

What Are The Most Reliable Power Surge Protectors?

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

There are many forms of electric power surge protectors, however they all are built to give protection to your precious household electronic equipment from hazardous surges and spikes within the electricity supply.  If you wish to protect your household gadgets, Power Surge Protectors are the first line of defense.

Every piece of electronic gear contains extremely sensitive elements which are easily damaged by surges and spikes within the electric power source.  This kind of damage might be extremely pricey to mend, and sometimes repair will be very unlikely.  Whilst they are not usually obvious, variances within your household power source are common.

Electrical power surge protectors to fit the requirements of just about all ones own electric gear can be found in an array of shapes and sizes.  These devices can offer surge defense for the overall household or can be as small as a single outlet.

There are some points you should discover about electrical power surge protectors, which includes why they are so beneficial for your home and just how they function.  Essentially, they protect electric products from “surges” and also “spikes” within your residence’s electric power current.

How do electrical power spikes and surges contrast?  The principle differentiation will be the duration, with surges lasting a little longer as compared to spikes.  Many people understand that lightning strikes could cause damaging electrical power spikes, yet smaller sized spikes as well as surges in voltage happen somewhat frequently.

On occasion these smaller voltage variances will be significant enough to be able to harm your electronic gadgets.  Regularly the damage just isn’t immediately detectable, however after a while, the damage increases and shortens the equipment’s life-span.

A power surge protector works by redirecting any electrical power which is greater than the appropriate current and grounding it through the cables in its socket.  The method is an affordable way to protect your home gadgets and it is absolutely safe and sound.

The current market provides various sorts of electrical power surge protectors, so you need to understand what specific features you need to look for.

The first decision relates to how many surge protectors you’ll need.  Don’t think that simply big groups of equipment need to be shielded.  Should you simply wish to protect 1 device and you don’t want to utilize a big multi-outlet strip type of surge protector, just one of the solo electric outlet power surge protectors that are available is an excellent choice.

Check that your electrical power surge protector has a built-in fuse.  This particular feature can provide further defense if a spike or surge too large to be grounded through the wires the standard way should occur.  Additionally try to find equipment that include warranties covering damage which may occur to electric powered devices despite being connected into your surge protectors.

You should also investigate the electricity surge protectors that are made for your whole property.  These kind of products must be fitted by an electrician, nonetheless they help make a excellent investment decision in the safety of your home in addition to safeguarding your pricey electric gear.

Multi-outlet power surge protectors tend to be the most commonly encountered style.  While you’re looking for of these types of protectors you have numerous options out there.  Some tend to be color-coded to help you recognise which device each socket is associated with, which will save you the stress of tracing all of your electrical power cables back to their origins just to be capable to establish which one you intend to unplug.  Multi-surge protectors come in a variety of sizes and shapes to best match the space you have available.

The Kindle Vs iPad - A Comparison

Friday, April 30th, 2010

Presenting a feature-for-feature Kindle vs iPad review, which gadget will likely win hands down? Without a doubt, the Apple iPad, with its recent much hyped about launch, is the “in” thing at present. Hardcore Apple consumers can scarcely wait to get their hands on one as the WiFi versions are likely to ship in late March, while the 3G units are to be delivered starting April. When that time comes, we will expect to see long lines in front of every Apple store just like what happened with the release of the iPhone.

But what of the ereaders like the Amazon Kindle and the Sony Reader?  The ereader has slowly become a common consumer device, with the Kindle getting the bigger share of the market. Seeing the promise of such a device however, many such ebook readers have also been released of late, with most of them having practically the same features as that of the Kindle. Now with the introduction of tablet PCs like the iPad which can also ably perform as an ebook reader, the gadget demand may perhaps shift  to multi-functional devices. Can the iPad really make a major setback to the ebook reader industry? Let’s weigh the significant elements.

First off, the negatives. The iPad will only be associated with Apple’s own ebook store. While getting an iPad is a smart move for those who are still considering buying an ebook reading gadget, if you already own a lot of ebooks, you won’t be able to access these in the iPad. Actual ebook prices are still to be confirmed, but there’s word that buying iBooks in the Apple ebook store is going to cost you around 12.99 dollars and 14.99 dollars. These rates can be slightly steep if you have to start from scratch. Plus, Amazon’s ebooks continue to retail at 9.99 dollars apiece.

Nonetheless, getting an iPad has its own set of advantages, being a device able to perform many functions. You will be able to use this big iPhone lookalike, sans the “phone”, to stream high-def movies, watch your favorite TV shows, browse the web, and play games on a 9.7 inch IPS touch screen. Sticking with Apple standards, the clarity and color is amazing, and it comes with your choice of 16-GB, 32-GB or 64-GB internal memory. With such storage capability, the Library can hold a lot of books, which are ingeniously displayed on a “book shelf” design. With one simple tap, you may pick out your ebook, and read it on the high-resolution, LED back-lit screen. Depending on your storage and connection preferences, prices start out at 499 dollars and end at 829 dollars. It does have special apps developed specially for the iPad, and you’ll have access to many of the 140,000 other apps at the App Store.

On the other hand, the Amazon Kindle is a device intended for the user’s most comfortable and convenient reading experience in mind. Unlike the LCD screen of the iPad, the Kindle, like the current batch of ebook readers, is equipped with e-ink display, which many say, is unarguably best for reading for longer periods of time. The Kindle’s battery can last up to two weeks without recharging, so it could also make the ideal traveling companion. The 6-inch model is priced at 259 dollars, while the 9.7-inch Kindle DX costs 489 dollars.

So which gadget gets our nod in this Kindle vs iPad comparison? Definitely for the gadget geek, the iPad will go perfectly alongside his MacBook Pro, AirPort Express, Magic Mouse and its smaller counterpart in looks, the iPhone. Jobs and his staff have created yet another brilliant product for the dedicated Apple user. But for the bookworm just looking to read in the most conjucive “environment” and don’t require all of the other extra features, the Kindle ebook reader is still your best option on the market today.

Car Gadgets: Help Or A Danger?

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

We all know that in the UK we are not allowed to actually text, tweet, or tap away on any other social sites when we are driving which of course is very understandable indeed but if this is all true why are we allowed to be staring into our Sat Nav screens when we are driving? My personal opinion is that this is just as bad as some of the other things?

The Dangers

The biggest danger seems to come when people are very lost and are spending more time on the Sat Nav screen than the roads. Other people around you need to be thought about too, you will not just be injuring yourself if you make a mistake. If you have a passenger with you then simply get them to take a look and tell you where you are going, if you have not got someone simply pull over and look at the screen!

Easier

Having a Sat Nav in the car is meant to be there to use but not to rely on by any means, this is the same for any other gadget in the car that is designed to make driving that little bit more easier for you. The best thing to do is to always rely on your instincts and not just the gadgets, the instincts will always be better. If you do have a crash because you were not paying attention  you will be looking at your next car from the viewpoint of someone whtat has bad credit car finance and you will need bad credit car leasing.

Gap insurance will help you out on something like this but the best advice that I can personally give you is never take your eyes off of the road under any circumstances.

These Gadgets Help In The Car

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

There are so many gadgets out there for the car that it can often be very hard to keep track of them and people take them for granted. Lets take a look at some of the best ones out there.

The iPod Charger/ Player

The first thing I do when I step into my Audi Q5 is to plug my pod into the speakers and select shuffle. This is one of the best ways to listen to really decent music without having to listen to the boring adverts that we face everyday when listening to the normal radio stations.

Electric Windows

I really do not know what would happen if we did not have those electronic windows? Can you imagine keep having to pull over on those hot summer days and having to get out of the car and wind down all of the windows manually! Although the one problem with these windows is you are truly stuffed if they break because there are no manual controls.

Cup Holders

Without the cup holder I have to say there would be plenty of spillages in the car, however the cup holder has still been called a dangerous gadget. We would be spilling drinks left, right and centre if it wasn’t for these, especially the Americans and the people in those fancy Audi TT Roadster.

Parking Sensors

These things are always taken advantage of when you are reversing into a parking space. If you have these installed on your car then the chances are you won’t even bother looking behind you. Well if your new Audi parking sensors break and you smash up your car you cant blame anyone other than yourself.

Of course there are many other gadgets out there for the car that people really do love taking for granted but those were just some of the ones that a lot of people have, with the exception of the parking sensors of course. So there you have it, the next time you are operating a gadget in your car, do not take it for granted.

Apple iPad or Amazon Kindle - Which Do You Want?

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

It’s been a long time coming but Apple has finally shown their tablet computer to the world. It’s been given the name of iPad and has, somewhat predictably perhaps, been given a mixed reception. Some think that it’s just an outsize iPod Touch. Others believe that it will sound the death knell for the notebook, the netbook and the e-book reader.

In particular, the iPad has, for a long time now, been predicted to be the “Kindle Killer”. Which is, in one way strange as the Amazon Kindle and the Apple iPad are two very different devices, and yet, in another way, somehow inevitable. When the iPad starts shipping in March, they will be the two hottest gadgets on the market. The fact that they are brought to market by two of the world’s largest and most successful corporations is a factor.

The Kindle is extremely specialized. It performs one job, being a dedicated e-book reader, extremely well. Not only is it a great e-book reader but it simplifies the process of buying and taking receipt of books very nicely. On the other hand the iPad is a verstaile Jack of all trades. Its color screen is ideal for surfing the net, playing games, playing video and, of course, you can also use it as an mp3 player and access the enormous library of Apple “Apps”.

There are a number of reasons why the Kindle is such a good e-book reader. One of the most important is its e-ink technology display. This provides the user with a reading experience which is very similar to reading text printed on normal paper and is much more comfortable than reading on a back-lit PC monitor. It needs very liitle power to operate, especially with the wireless facility turned off - so it can last for lengthy periods between charges. However, the e-ink display, which is a great strength for an e-book reader, is monochrome and relatively slow to refresh - which means that it’s pretty poor, or completely non-functional, for use as a web browser or video player.

The iPad’s great color display makes it perfect to surf the internet, watch video or play games. The down side is that the back-lit screen produces more eye strain than the Kindle’s e-ink display and it has a relatively short ten hour battery life between charges.

The fact is that the Kindle is a much better e-book reader than the iPad - but it is unlikely, even in its next iteration, to ever be anything other than a “reserve” web browser - suitable for occasional use only. Apple’s iPad is very definitely a multi-functional device. Apart from its suitability for use as an e-book reader, there will probably be other specialist devices that perform some of its other tasks better. If you want a specialist device or if you feel that the increased versatility of the iPad is more than enough to compensate for less than ideal performance in all areas will be the determining factor in deciding which device you choose.

When considered purely as an e-book reader, the iPad is, quite frankly, not a patch on the Kindle. However, even after its next iteration (due sometime early in 2010 if the rumours are true) the Kindle will not be suitable for anything other than very basic and infrequent web browsing. There may very well be other specialist devices which can, is selected areas, perform better than the iPad. Which device you choose will be determined by your preparedness to sacrifice a small amount of performance for a lot of versatility and the convenience of a multi-functional device.

Gifts To Make Men Happy This Year

Friday, March 5th, 2010

Now that we have left the ‘naughties’, there are a myriad new gifts and gadgets on the market for the new decade. 10 years ago everyone wanted a home PC or DVD player. Even though these are common place now in most households, a more advanced wave of gadgets is upon us that do things in better quality and are even more compact. If you’re looking for the best gifts for men then you’ll need to get with the times and find out what is really in vogue right now.Lets take a look at some promising presents for this year.

Micro RC Helicopter. Its difficult to see what is so advanced about a micro helicopter when compared to the old larger modules, but believe it or not they are completely different. Previously you had to fork out a whole lot of money for a remote control helicopter and then find an empty field with low winds to test it in. Remote control planes were even more of a hassle. You can fly micro choppers however in pretty much any room of the house and the good ones can be controlled by even the most malcoordinated of users. All you need to look out for is braking a light or sharing the daylights out of the cat.

New Generation Cell Phones. 10 years ago a phone was just that, something to make calls with…but now they do pretty much everything we desire. We can now browse the internet on phones, send and receive email, play games and even find our way via GPS.  However, technology does not stand still and men especially want the most up-to-date gadgets to play with. Look out for more phones incorporating mini digital projectors, night vision recorders and even telescoping lenses attachments.

Netbooks. As with all gadgets, computers are getting smaller all the time. The laptop started to get so small that people decided to call it something new, and so the netbook was born. Admittedly they do slightly different jobs, but netbooks are becoming as powerful as laptops these days and so more and more people are choosing them as their primary computer. Reductions in weight and increases in battery life are just some of the developments planned for a number of netbooks.

A Comparison of Kindle DX and Kindle with Global Wireless

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

The most clear difference between these two digital reading gadgets available for purchase at the moment is that one only works in the United States while the “Global Kindle” works in over 100 countries all over the globe. Obviously if you make your bed outside the States (or if you are a US citizen who often travels to countries around the world) then that makes your decision (such as it is) obvious; You must buy the Kindle with Global Wireless.

Besides that very important distinction, the biggest difference is that of size. The Kindle DX is larger as far it’s display and how much memory it has. It is also much larger as far as it’s price.

While the DX is 9.7 inches, the Kindle with Global Wireless is just 6 inches. The larger display is most helpful with newspaper subscriptions (it makes it more like reading a real paper.) On the flip side, the smaller size of the regular version may make it more easy to take with you.

There is also a big difference as far as memory. The Kindle DX Electronic Reading Device can hold over 3000 books while the global version of this gadget can hold about 1,500 books. But really, who has that many books?! I have a very hard time imagining this huge amount of space that the DX has is needed for most people.

Another difference is that the DX has an auto-rotating screen so that if you flip the gadget on it’s side the screen automatically adjusts itself to be read horizontally (and automatically adjusts itself to be read vertically when you flip it back.)

Both kindles can download from a selection of approximately 400,000 books, newspapers, and magazines which can all be purchased for lower prices than their paper alternatives.

Both kindles have text to speech software which automatically turns all of your books into audio books.

Neither of these devices have any monthly charges to worry about. The wireless service is provided much like the wireless for a GPS.

Both devices have a very basic built in web browswer that lets you check out websites from anywhere. It should be noted that this web browswer is meant for text based websites such as blogs and Wikepedia. It’s not for pictures or videos.

Dad gets a Sat Nav

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

The Sat Nav has such been purchased by my dad, I give the final verdict. He was perhaps a bit lucky as he managed to pick it up through his company, we have had several problems with the product though.

The product itself is fantastic, a brilliant idea for someone who doesn’t want to constantly pull over and read a map or listen to the wife telling you the wrong directions. The real problem is that it turns into your wife because if it makes a mistake it then blames you for it by saying turn around, turn around, turn around (you get the idea). There has even been an instance in which it attempted to lead us onto a road that wasn’t there.

Another bad yet amusing issue is that he insists on using it for everything, even the easiest of trips now take longer while we wait for he crazy Sat Nav woman to tell us the way. I

The Sat Nav is best used in foreign countries where you have no idea where to go at all. When you are in a foreign country it can be nice to be told the directions by somebody other than your wife or someone you do not understand.

Replacing them is not easy either which is why some form of Sat Nav Insurance will need to be taken out to avoid nasty replacement costs. Of course you could get gadget insurance as this actually sets out to cover you against other things like phones and games consoles. Sometimes you do not need to take out that extra mobile phone insurance

Replacing them is not easy either which is why some form of Sat Nav Insurance will need to be taken out to avoid nasty replacement costs. Protect Your Money When Your Favourite Gadget Goes Wrong

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Technology within the last decade has grown increasingly to become amazing. With new recent breakthroughs in the form of the new iPhone being able to recognise voice recognition to the new announcement that Microsofts Project Natal for the Xbox 360 is set to have full body motion sensing capabilities with no wires and nothing plugged into you in any way at all.

However what happens when something goes wrong with it? In some cases, the costs to repair the gadgets can be more than you initially paid for them. For many of the cases, it’s down to the way the product has been made and that’s how the problem has occured. Although the Xbox 360 has been proven to be the best console in this latest console generation, it does have one problem with it. The three red rings. To any Xbox 360 owners, seeing the red rings is horrible because you basically have to hand over your wallet. The only way to avoid paying around 50 pound for a repair is if your console is in warranty.

It always used to be a rare occurence if your N64 or Playstation 1 broke, however, we are still seeing the flow of broken Xbox’s, but we are also seeing Playstation 3’s and Nitendo Wii’s being sent away to be fixed. It could be down to more people are playing games due to the huge amount being released within the last few months, or, it could be down to the manufacturers not fixing the problems and just selling more machines.

There are solutions now to avoid you having to fork out the cash and it comes from gadget insurance. This can be purchased to cover up to five of any gadgets you can think of for just under 20 a month. Although the price does seem high, it’s alot less than if you had to repair just one of your gadgets each month. This is mainly due to the fact that if for instance you were to drop your iPhone it would cost you around 100 to repair. If you think about the money, paying 20 pound every month to insure 5 gadgets is a good price, rather than spending 100 pound every time you drop your iPhone. Also, when it comes to repairing gaming consoles such as the Nintendo Wii, they can charge you up to 180 pounds for the repair, making it cheaper to buy a new console.

Of course if it is just the one product you want to insure, even if it’s not a gaming console, you can simply pay for iPod insurance by itself. Unfortunately, the majority of home emergency insurance policies won’t cover damage to your gadgets like iPods and consoles.
