The Importance of GPS Receivers

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

According to the standard definition, a GPS receiver is a device that enables navigation through the satellite system, by determining the exact geographical location. In terms of the importance for the Global Position System, the GPS receiver plays the least significant function of all. The other two vital elements are the satellites and the control and monitoring stations. Once the GPS receiver gets the signal, it proceeds to its decoding according to latitude, longitude and altitude. Retailers provide both the GPS receiver units and the necessary accessories in a very wide range of models, designs and brands.

Air navigation, military and maritime operations, disaster relief interventions and emergency services would be paralyzed without the Global Positioning System. Moreover, the GPS system provides accurate timing for mobile phone operations, power grids control as well as banking operations. The GPS receiver is the modern way to be safe, accurate and in control of countless of activities no matter where you are on the globe. If we are to judge by the efficiency of highways, mass transit systems and streets when coordinated through GPS receiver systems, we understand the importance of this new technology worldwide.

With a GPS receiver you can identify the vehicle location, as well as get information for the best way to reach destination. From the receiver, the signal is decoded and processed by a special software that allows for vocal announcements and graphic displays of the routes. The vocal feature of the GPS receiver is considered very reliable and safe by lots of drivers because it is a lot easier to follow it than to periodically check the monitor for left, right or street name directions. Furthermore, the very efficiency of a trip is enhanced by the possibility to take alternate routes and avoid traffic, and all thanks to the GPS device use.

The GPS receiver technology also finds application in the constant monitoring of roads and highways by the authorities. The information available for such systems includes details on maintenance, service stations, supplies, damage to the road system as well as entry and exit ramps. The data gathering process adjacent to the Geographic Information System (GIS) allows the formation of large databases of knowledge that is afterwards processed by lots of drivers and transportation companies that have to maximize the efficiency of the rides. GIS and GPS systems are intertwined and actively support each other.

How To Buy GPS Units For Less

Monday, January 25th, 2010

If you plan to go on a long trip by car and you want to have all the navigation details covered, a GPS receiver saves you the trouble of asking for directions or checking maps. People know try to shop wisely and get a good GPS deal to benefit from an individual mobility unit. GPS coupons should save you some money but such GPS deal cases are limited to certain time intervals. Normally, you should hunt for sales in manufacturers like Garmin, Maestro, Magellan or TomTom.

We can also call it a good GPS deal when for an average price you get the GPS unit and some accessories. Dash and windshield mount, cables, wrist straps, belt clips, weatherproof coverings, spare batteries and data cards are great items to have with you on a trip. Even so, the need and the usage extent of the GPS accessories varies from individual to individual. If you need the receiver for outdoor activities like cycling or hiking, a waterproof design and spare batteries are vital. Consequently, you have to fish for a GPS deal that matches your needs.

The efficiency of the GPS receiver depends on the data cards; these devices store all the information and maps available for the area where you travel. A great GPS deal is when you get blank memory cards together with the device so that you can decide which maps to upload. The difference between GPS units can be very high, and so are the user’s needs: therefore, if some people prefer blank memory cards, others would like pre-installed ones so that they don’t have to trouble about downloading software and maps.

Let’s not forget about the car power adapter and the spare batteries that we’ve mentioned above, as they can be very handy where the GPS device runs out of power. You should also know that there are areas where the satellite connection can be lost, and for such cases the use of the antenna kits may prove essential. Therefore, you may pay a bit more for a system that contains an antenna kit for inside-of-vehicle access, but it is surely a good GPS deal if you manage to anticipate and prevent unwanted situations.

Car Navigation with a GPS`

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Car traveling has been a lot simpler since the invention of the Global Positioning System. The initial purpose of satellite-assisted navigation was to support complex transportation and military operations, but its usage has become a lot more extended over the years. GPS for cars are products that receive and decode signals from a complex network of satellites that enable you to determine the current car location and help you set the route for a destination. GPS receivers are available in many designs, formats and models, with a higher or lower user-friendly rate. Inexpensive systems are easy to plug in and store, but they can be more difficult to operate and not exactly high quality. More money means more quality.

Car design is very important when shopping for a personal navigation system. For instance, the presence of a monitor for map display on the car dashboard may be very inconvenient or uncomfortable with some GPS for cars because of the vehicle design. The air vents should remain clear, and the view from the passenger seat should not be a problem. GPS for cars therefore have to be chosen so as to match the dashboard features and the entire interior car design for maximum of efficiency and convenience.

Multi-functionality! Consider this criterion when shopping for GPS for cars. Navigation info can be provided in multiple ways, therefore it is very convenient for the user to select a variant that suits his/her needs. You can navigate with some GPS receivers by selecting the data from a personal address book, others select the location directly from the map, while others can operate by intersection or directly by address. Moreover, in the same direction, you should buy a GPS for cars with features for both vocal and graphical directions. Besides the vocal messages, the GPS monitor can indicate the direction by arrows either in relation to the name of the street or with the car position matching the destination.

Details on hotels, restaurants, ATMs, airports and lots of other sites are available with good GPS for cars. Such a complex device may seem a bit more expensive, but when you travel a lot and need to go from place to place, information is crucial. Moreover, very advanced GPS systems can make updates about the points-of-interest from a certain region. You may be at a loss about what GPS for cars to buy when there are so many models to choose from. The best way to sort things out is by going to a retailer that has demo units in-store so that you can check how the system works for yourself. Then, the features of a GPS unit will be a lot easier to appreciate!
